Hancock, Rev. Benjamin Lewis Hancock

From "The Benjamin Lewis Hancock Family of Texas and Oklahoma" written around August 1984 by Estelle Hancock McCombs....

It is my understanding that our grandfother (B.L.H) was born in Texas and died in Oklahoma, where he had lived for many years. His father, Benjamin Timothy, was born in Tennesee and died in Erath County, Texas. His mother (Elizabeth "Betsy" Rhule) was born in Missouri and died in Erath County, Texas.

Our grandmother, Rettie Laird Hancock, was born in Mississippi and died in Eakley, Oklahoma. Her mother's maiden name was Jennings. She was born in Mississippi and died in Erath county Texas.

Our grandfother (B.L.H) was a Methodist minister-- a circuit rider. I can remember visiting Eakly, Oklahoma and hearing him preach (lengthy sermon), and our grandmother would shout. From a distant cousin, Mary Elizabeth (Crickett) Hancock, born 2/12/1876, died 1971, who lived near the B.L.H's at Santa Ana, Texas, I learned that our grandmother was loved by all the children because she always played 'kick the can' with them. Rev. Benjamin Lews Hancock was born November 15, 1855 and died June 6, 1934.

Alva Retta (Rettie) Laird Hancock was born May 31, 1854 and died March 23, 1931, buried at Eakley, Oklahoma. Their childred were: Ida, Temsey, George, Annie, Ben, Miller, Alice, Alva, Tom, Garland, Cora, and Albert. As best as I can determine, all these and their spouses are deceased.

August 1, 1984 - In recent months Alvis Hancock has done some detailed research. Whether he has brought the lineage in order up to our generation, I'm not sure.

Susie Howell has also done a great deal of research. (Appreciate and encourge them please!)
