This page is a top level index to other family books, related to the Hancock family. I intend to create a family book or chapter a family or family surname, when it seems to make sense to me. My hope is these books or chapters will provide a quick way to jump to a branch of the family tree.
While looking though an old folder of family history papers, I came across "The Benjamin Lewis Hancock Family of Texas and Oklahoma" written by Estelle Hancock McCombs. I have included the text below, with the family tree details applied to the linked family pages. It may take a while to publish all the information, so check back or drop me a comment on the Contact page if you see something missing.

This brief effort at the history of the B.L. Hancock family is being compiled in early 1984 by Estelle Hancock McCombs, Grand-daughter of the B.L.H.s and daughter of Ben E. Hancock. Hopefully it will encourage one of the younger generation to do the historical research that I, along with others, have as yet been unable to complete. One of the important things we can leave to our descendants is personal pride and awareness through knowledge of there ancestors.
While searching for facts, I regretted that this was not compiled years ago when some members of the immediate family were living. Let's try to correct the errors that you will find. I was unable to get information from all families.
In the pages the family lineage is only traced from my grandparents, each of the 12 children, and their spouses who were my aunts and uncles; and their children who are my own cousins. I only traced to the present my family. You can easily insert a page for your family. Please do!
My gratitude goes to each of you who responded to my plea for help-- also to my daughter-in-law Linda, who typed this, and to my Joe L. Mc for his support.
It is my understanding that our grandfather (B.L.H) was born in Texas and died in Oklahoma, where he had lived for many years. His father, Benjamin Timothy, was born in Tennessee and died in Erath County, Texas. His mother (Elizabeth "Betsy" Rhule) was born in Missouri and died in Erath County, Texas.
Our grandmother, Rettie Laird Hancock, was born in Mississippi and died in Eakley(sp), Oklahoma. Her mother's maiden name was Jennings. She was born in Mississippi and died in Erath county Texas.
Our grandfather (B.L.H) was a Methodist minister-- a circuit rider. I can remember visiting Eakly, Oklahoma and hearing him preach (lengthy sermon), and our grandmother would shout. From a distant cousin, Mary Elizabeth (Crickett) Hancock, born 2/12/1876, died 1971, who lived near the B.L.H's at Santa Ana, Texas, I learned that our grandmother was loved by all the children because she always played 'kick the can' with them. Rev. Benjamin Lews Hancock was born November 15, 1855 and died June 6, 1934.
Alva Retta (Rettie) Laird Hancock was born May 31, 1854 and died March 23, 1931, buried at Eakley(sp), Oklahoma. Their children were: Ida, Temsey, George, Annie, Ben, Miller, Alice, Alva, Tom, Garland, Cora, and Albert. As best as I can determine, all these and their spouses are deceased.
August 1, 1984 - In recent months Alvis Hancock has done some detailed research. Whether he has brought the lineage in order up to our generation, I'm not sure.
Susie Howell has also done a great deal of research. (Appreciate and encourage them please!) ---
This book is based on the George and Lillie May Hancock family tree, and hopefully, eventually containing sections for each decedent or decedent family. We will expand each section with information and pictures about that person or family.
In the interest of privacy, we will only include public information here. We will exclude information deemed sensitive, or at the request of the person or family members affected.
