How to make your photos available here

Here is a brief step by step method to make your photos available to this web site, through the use of the Google Picasaweb photo publishing tool. This is not too complex, but if you are not comfortable with working on the computer or web, ask one of your younger computer savvy relatives or friends to help you with these instructions.

First, be aware that everything we publish here is available to the public. So keep your photos tasteful, as well as legal. We expect all photos to be about the Hancock Reunion or family. Please include captions and descriptions, as noted in the instructions below. The Hancock family is large, and many of us may not recognize the people in your pictures.

Ok, let's get started.

  1. Open your browser to the Picasaweb site.
  2. If you do not have an account on Google, create one for yourself. Then come back to Picasaweb and login.
  3. Follow the Picasa instructions to upload and share your photos:
    1. Click on the Upload button at the top of the page.
    2. In the pop up window, type in the information requested to name, date and describe the photo album you are going to upload. Note you must select "Public" for the photos to be published on the web site. Then click continue.
    3. You may be prompted to install an activeX control to upload photos. You may choose to do so, or you can click on "Basic Upload" to upload files without activeX controls.
    4. Click add photos or browse to find and select your photo files on your computer, and upload.
    5. When the upload is finished, view the album.
    6. There is an "Edit" menu select where you can add captions and edit other information about your photos. Make any changes now.
  4. Now comes the part where we publish your photos on the site.
    1. Open your album on Picasaweb.
    2. On the right side of the page, find the link called "Link to this album" and click on it.
    3. Below the two "Paste" selections that are displayed, click on the "Embed Slideshow" link.
    4. In the pop up window, select Extra-Large or Extra-Extra-Large.
    5. Enable "Show Captions" check box, if you have captions.
    6. Disable "Autoplay"
    7. Click on the yellow background text under "Embed slideshow, Copy and paste this into your website:"
    8. Press keyboard Control-C to copy the text.
    9. Paste the copied text (Control-V) into the contact form on the web site, and send it to us. Be sure to let is know if you want us to include any text with the embedded photos.
    10. We will check it and put it on the web site.
